NORTH SPOKANE10:21 AM PDT on Saturday, September 6, 2008 -

A suspected car thief is in jail following a high speed police pursuit Friday night in Spokane.

A Police helicopter was used to track 22-year-old John Luna from the air as officers gave chase on the ground.

Police arrested Luna following a foot chase after he crashed the stolen car in North Spokane.
The pursuit began around 8 p.m. when an officer watched Luna crash into a car in the Garland District.

Police say Luna hit two more cars during the pursuit.

The chase eventually reached high speeds and they called off the ground pursuit.

That’s when the Spokane Police Department used helicopter “Air 1” to track the suspect.

The suspect’s vehicle eventually crashed twice near Shadle Park High School.

Officers say Luna did try to flee the scene, but was arrested near Hoffman and Driscoll.

Luna faces multiple charges including hit and run, eluding, possession of a stolen vehicle, and assault on an officer.

Nobody was injured in the pursuit.
