Welcome to our website. We are pleased to provide the public with information, news, and response to your comments and concerns specific to airborne law enforcement operations in Sacramento County. The Sheriff’s Department Air Operations Bureau proudly flies five helicopters and four fixed-wing aircraft in support of ground-based law enforcement operations throughout Sacramento and the surrounding regions. Our proficient and dedicated aircrews, coupled with exceptional aircraft also enable us to provide air support throughout Northern California for law enforcement, homeland defense, search & rescue, marijuana eradication, or other mutual aid as requested.

Through this website, we are striving for two important goals. First, we anticipate a mechanism to better serve the public and demonstrate our dedication to duty and our commitment to providing the highest level of specialized service to the community; and secondly, to cherish the spirit of those we have lost in the line of duty, and provide a resource for charitable contributions to recognize and preserve their sacrifice and commitment.

Over the next few months, I will expand on specific topics of interest relative to air operations and law enforcement events in our area, and I will make every attempt to respond to questions and/or concerns you may have. I assure you this, as you hear the sound of a helicopter hovering over your neighborhood at 2:00 in the morning, we are not deliberately trying to disturb your peaceful sleep. We are in fact in diligent pursuit of a criminal on the loose who may pose a greater threat if not captured.

Clearly, the human element itself is the essential component to providing the highest level of service; however, experts worldwide agree technology, K9, and air support are the most efficient and effective law enforcement tools and “force multipliers” in existence today.
